Hardy scale : Hardy to -5 Celsius for short periods.
This is probably the best known from the Proteaceae family. It is also the national flower of South Africa being one of the most outstanding Proteas. It is an evergreen bushy, multi stemmed shrub with huge flower heads.
One of the easiest and most adaptable Proteas in cultivation. It needs very poor acidic soil, Proteas resent phosphate fertilizers. In colder climates it is suitable to grow in large pots.
Like most Proteas it is not the most hardy of plants but even should it appear dead, cut right back to the ground and it most likely will re-sprout.
